FEA Career Talk
Want to Become a Personal Trainer?
A career talk titled “Want to Become a Personal Trainer?” was successfully concluded on 6 January 2026 at MNU Auditorium Hall 1, with the participation of 20 attendees interested in exploring careers within the fitness and wellness industry.
The session was jointly led by Jerrican Tan, Founder and CEO of Fitness Edutraining Asia (FEA), and Ryaash, Managing Director of FEA Academy Maldives and Founder of Legacy Fitness, Riyaz and Sons Pvt Ltd.
With over 20 years of experience in developing fitness professionals across Asia, Jerrican Tan opened the session by providing an international perspective on the personal training profession. His presentation covered the realities of working as a personal trainer, including global career pathways, client expectations, employer standards, certification requirements, and earning potential across different regions. He emphasised the importance of professionalism, continuous education, and ethical practice in building long-term success in the fitness industry. He also addressed common misconceptions around fitness careers and stressed that success in the field depends on reliability, communication skills, education, and long-term commitment rather than physical appearance alone.
Following this, Ryaash delivered a locally grounded segment focused on the Maldivian fitness landscape, drawing on over 12 years of hands-on experience in the field. His talk highlighted the rapid growth of the fitness and wellness sector in the Maldives, realistic local pay structures, and what gym owners and employers actively look for when hiring trainers.
A key theme throughout the session was the need for structured education and industry collaboration to raise professional standards within the Maldivian fitness sector. Attendees were encouraged to view fitness not as a short-term opportunity, but as a viable and sustainable career when approached with the right mindset, qualifications, and support system.
The session concluded with an interactive discussion, where participants engaged directly with the speakers, asking questions about career progression, income expectations, certifications, and employment opportunities both locally and abroad.
Organisers noted that the career talk aimed to provide clarity and realistic guidance for individuals considering personal training as a profession, while also contributing to the broader goal of professionalising the fitness industry in the Maldives.
